Gonzaga Santesteban

Professor of viticulture

Universidad Pública de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain

Gonzaga Santesteban’s career is devoted to intermingling research, teaching and transference in viticulture, following what he defines as a “retro-innovative approach.” Learning from vintage to vintage, Gonzaga believes that it’s possible to speak the language of the vines, the winegrowers, and the viticulturists following the most rigorous science. He currently works as the Head of the Department of Agronomy, Biotechnology and Food Science at the Universidad Pública de Navarra in Spain. His research is focused on vineyard management, curation and characterization, precision viticulture and, more recently, reviving forgotten knowledge of pruning and grafting vines. Gonzaga is also the academic head for the Master of Innovative Oenology, bringing his 20+ years of experience to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in viticulture, horticulture and fruit growing.
